Ange Postecoglou now very close to ‘tragic sack’ at Tottenham
Tottenham’s Europa League quarter-final showdown with Frankfurt on Thursday is set to determine the success of their season.
Spurs had to rescue a 1-1 draw in North London against the Bundesliga highfliers on 10 April, as Pedro Porro scored the equaliser for Ange Postecoglou’s men.
But Postecoglou’s side could be in for a tough night in Germany for the reverse leg, against a free-scoring outfit that sit third in the Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s lengthy run in the Europa League has come despite their woeful Premier League campaign, and Sunday’s 4-2 defeat at Wolves saw the North Londoners slip to 15th.

Simon Jordan tips Postecoglou for the sack if Spurs lose to Frankfurt
Tottenham have now lost 17 Premier League games this term, and their only chance of obtaining success this term is via an unlikely Europa League triumph amid growing pressure on Postecoglou.
Opponent | Result |
Chelsea (A) | 1-0 L |
Southampton (H) | 3-1 W |
Frankfurt (H) | 1-1 D |
Wolves (A) | 4-2 L |
Speaking live on talkSPORT [14 April, 12:08 pm], Simon Jordan said: “He [Postecoglou] is in a situation tragically for himself where if he loses this game to Frankfurt [he will be sacked], which on the balance of probability you would suggest they will.
“They had their best opportunity when playing them at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“Eintracht Frankfurt, going back to their stadium, will now fancy the chance, and I think they may well overcome Spurs. I hope they don’t. I don’t see the case to retain Ange. If they win the Europa League, then you have a case.”
Wolves defeat epitomised how poor Spurs have been
Jordan is right to suggest that if Postecoglou does not achieve success in the Europa League, he will likely face the sack.
Tottenham are enduring a terrible Premier League campaign and are in danger of slipping further to 16th amid their poor form, coupled with Wolves’ strong run.
Postecoglou’s men have suffered some woeful results this season, such as their home defeats against both Ipswich and Leicester.
Both the Tractor Boys and the Foxes look set for relegation back to the Championship, yet Spurs were unable to overcome either of them on home soil.
Tottenham’s defensive frailties were exposed yet again when they were hammered by a Wolves side who have managed a relatively uninspiring return of 47 goals in 32 Premier League fixtures.
Spurs’ tough afternoon at Molineux played out a sorry narrative, which has been all too familiar for Postecoglou this term.
The ice looks to be finally cracking.
