Tottenham agree 'strange' transfer as ex-employee reveals likely good money
Tottenham Hotspur have been the busiest club by far in the Premier League this summer.
Andy Robertson kickstarted things at Hotspur Way, arriving on a free transfer after his contract expired at Liverpool.
Roberto De Zerbi wasn't done there either, with Marcos Senesi also arriving with no transfer fee.
Jan Paul van Hecke was the first serious piece of money spent, as the Dutchman arrived from Brighton for just above £50million.
That hasn't stopped Spurs and the Lewis family though, with strong links to Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes already.
That could see Tottenham take their spending beyond £200m, but smarter deals are being looked at alongside them.
Tottenham agree weird Martin Dubravka deal
At first glance, Spurs confirming the signing of Martin Dubravka is slightly strange, given their squad.
Antonin Kinsky is in talks over an improved contract, and Guglielmo Vicario still hasn't moved on with an exit likely.
Despite that, Tottenham have moved early to secure Dubravka.
After a year of consistent Premier League football with Burnley, Bryan King doesn't quite understand the move.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, the ex-Spurs scout believes that the money may have been good enough for him to accept a bench role in north London.
"It's a strange one," King said.
"They've still got Vicario there, Kinsky is supposed to be a number one and they've already got a third choice.
"If I was Dubravka, I would want first team football at Tottenham after being number one at Burnley.
"Why should be come and sit on the bench for Tottenham?
"It could depend on money and it may have been enough that he will go and sit on the bench there.
"Money is good, but he'll be want to be playing football as well."
What's next for Tottenham in transfer window?
The most obvious is that Vicario will move on, most likely back to Italy.
But in terms of incomings, Tottenham are advancing in talks to sign Fernandes from West Ham, in what would be an amazing coup.
De Zerbi isn't messing around, and to be fair to the Lewis family, they are backing up their words with big money to spend.
With all the money spent, smart additions need to be made too, and Dubravka fits in that category and some more.
