The numbers behind Antonin Kinsky's Tottenham U-turn as contract update emerges
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks with Antonin Kinsky over a new contract.
A Wednesday report from The Athletic outlines that Spurs have opened dialogue with the Czech keeper.
The Lilywhites are hoping to tie the 23-year-old after avoiding relegation from the Premier League.
That comes after the North London club announced the arrival of Martin Dubravka on a free transfer after his Burnley exit.
The 37-year-old looks set to be the new number two in N17 as a replacement for Guglielmo Vicario, leaving Kinsky to be the true number one.
That marks yet another key point on the number 31's turnaround as we assess how things have turned around so quickly.
When Antonin Kinsky hit new Tottenham low
The young shot-stopper has been seen as the back-up option to Vicario ever since coming in at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
There had been some positive elements to his game after his move from Slavia Prague, but not enough to earn a regular starting role.
That was until March where Igor Tudor opted to throw Kinsky in against Atletico Madrid in a Champions League round of 16 clash.
The Czech keeper lasted just 17 minutes after conceding three goals, committing errors for two of those.
He failed to make a single save in that time and also misplaced a third of his attempted passes at Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
That was a true low point for the shot-stopper, but he massively turned things around after Roberto De Zerbi's introduction.
Does Kinsky deserve a new contract at Tottenham?
There was once a feeling that the January 2025 signing was done at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
That hasn't turned out to be the case after a stellar U-turn in the final weeks of the season.
His best form was seen from late-April onwards, starting with a stunning clean sheet away to Wolves.
The 23-year-old made two saves and kept out 0.6 expected goals to help seal a 1-0 win at Molineux.
That was only made better after a dominant 2-1 win away to Aston Villa then another star showing against Leeds United.
It may have ended in a draw, but his three saves and 1.59 expected goals prevented tally was no mean feat.
Kinsky cemented his role in N17 on the final day where his sensational 90th minute save denied Everton a late equaliser with their one and only shot on target of the day.
That has all contributed to him being totally deserving of a new contract as he has shown massive levels of grit to get back to where he is now after a shocking night away to Atletico Madrid.
