Tottenham 'have to act now' to seal £90m Eli Junior Kroupi deal despite 'overspending' fears
Tottenham have been urged to break the bank for Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi.
That is the verdict from Spurs expert John Wenham amid reports that the Lilywhites want to sign the 20-year-old forward.
Roberto De Zerbi has already addressed defence and midfield and attention may now turn to the attacking positions.
Tottenham have already spent around £227million, and a swoop for the 13-goal star could be next on the agenda.
Dominic Solanke, Richarlison and Mathys Tel are the only options that the Italian boss has for the number nine role, and none of them have convinced.
Spurs have been warned that it could be their only opportunity to sign the Frenchman, though.
Why Tottenham have one chance to sign Eli Junior Kroupi
Wenham believes that the N17 outfit may only be able to sign the breakout star this summer.
Tottenham insider and FIFA-licensed agent Paul O'Keefe broke the news that the Cherries man was a target for Spurs.
TalkSPORT later revealed that De Zerbi's side are prepared to bid £85m, and the Lilywhite Rose owner thinks that if Kroupi repeats his exploits from last season, bigger clubs will enter the picture, so it is worth it.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "The forward line currently, with Randal Kolo Muani, who has left the club, consists of Dominic Solanke, who's missed a lot of last year through injury, and Richarlison, who has 10 months left on his contract and is expected to leave.
"When you write down Tottenham's strongest team moving forward, the forward line looks decidedly like an issue.
"Tottenham are rightfully in the market for a goalscorer, Kroupi would be an outstanding bit of recruitment if we managed to get him.
"I feel like this summer may be Tottenham's only chance to get him, I expect if his form continues next season, with Bournemouth playing in the Europa League as well after finishing sixth in the Premier League last season, his exposure and his sort of knowledge around world football will dramatically increase.
"It feels like if Tottenham are going to get him, possibly now is the only chance. It may be seen to others as Tottenham overpaying if they pay £85-90million for him, but I think Tottenham have got to act on these two 17th back-to-back finishes."
How can Tottenham afford Kroupi deal?
Tottenham had money left over from previous windows where they did not spend, but they could also be boosted by potential sales.
They have already brought in around £14m from the departures of Alejo Veliz and Alfie Devine, and more exits are expected.
Luka Vuskovic looks set to join Brighton in a £50m deal, Radu Dragusin's loan agreement has a £21m buy clause if certain conditions are met and Pape Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Cristian Romero could also leave.
That is how they can afford to sanction such a high-spending window and add Kroupi to the mix.
