Tottenham expert reveals potential Luca Williams-Barnett 'worry' despite contract talks
Luca Williams-Barnett could still leave Tottenham despite contract talks being underway.
That is the view of Spurs expert John Wenham, after top European clubs' interest in the 18-year-old emerged.
The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United were linked with the academy starlet after the silence on a new deal from the N17 outfit.
Wenham previously told Tottenham News that Williams-Barnett would be going nowhere.
He claimed that it was just media noise because the new contract had not been announced yet.
However, he has now revealed that there is one scenario that would worry the Lilywhites.
What is the concern over Luca Williams-Barnett's Tottenham future?
The Lilywhite Rose owner is still confident that Williams-Barnett will stay put in North London and agree to an extension.
He believes that Spurs hierarchy and supporters should be concerned if he has not signed the contract on the table by the time that the summer rolls around though.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "Once he signs that contract, that will be the end of the story.
"It's very easy to say, while it hasn't been announced that Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, I'm sure they all do want him, most clubs have got shortlists of 500-1,000 players that they would want if the circumstances were right.
"As I'm sure Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, if he was out of contract and available, they would all move for him.
"If by the summer, he hasn't signed the new contract, then I'm sure there could be some worry, because at that point, he would have one year remaining on his contract.
"At the moment, Tottenham are in complete control of the situation and we're only in October of the second season of the three-year deal, I'm sure they're not worried."
Spurs could still see him depart, although it seems as though they are not stressing right now.
Why Williams-Barnett's situation will not phase Roberto De Zerbi
Williams-Barnett is contracted until 2028, so Spurs have control over what happens.
They just need to make sure that he is satisfied with the deal that is on the table, the finances involved and any playing time guarantees that the player wants.
He will likely be gradually worked into the first-team fold over the coming months and years, until he eventually fulfils the brilliant potential that he has.
Roberto De Zerbi has already recognised Williams-Barnett's talent, speaking in July 2026, he said: “We have to manage him like a precious diamond."
He is clearly aware of the need to keep him from being exposed to too much senior football, too early.
The player needs to wait for his opportunities and not try to force them, as that would be detrimental to his development.
Hopefully, Spurs get the deal done soon and all the speculation can be well and truly put to bed, and the worry Wenham mentioned completely evaporates.
