Luca Williams-Barnett is arguably Tottenham Hotspur's biggest talent at the club right now.

The 18-year-old has been on a tear at Hotspur Way recently, carrying his momentum from last season forward for the U21s.

The attacking midfielder has been flirting with the first team since the start of the campaign, but played his first Premier League 2 match of the season before the break, scoring and getting an assist in a 4-2 win over Manchester City.

Williams-Barnett was subsequently called up to England's U19s squad, where he has scored in both the games that he has featured in for the young Three Lions.

Spurs fans have directed their ire at Roberto De Zerbi for not giving youngsters a chance since his arrival, as this summer saw several top talent depart N17.

However, Williams-Barnett could be about to flip the script at Tottenham, with De Zerbi a huge fan of the teenager.

Luca Williams-Barnett in talks over new Tottenham deal

Williams-Barnett made his professional debut for the Lilywhites at just 16 years old, and he wasn't given a chance out of luck.

The attacker has clear quality and picked up 11 goals and assists combined for Tottenham's U21s in the Premier League 2 last season.

He was given 12 minutes off the bench in Spurs' 5-1 Carabao Cup victory over Charlton Athletic at the end of August, but has not featured in a matchday squad since.

However, according to The Sun, Tottenham are in talks with Williams-Barnett over a new deal, with his current contract set to expire in 2028.

De Zerbi made his feelings on the forward clear in the summer, saying: "He is a precious diamond. We have to work on him in the final third, and he must work hard on his physicality.

"I’ve worked with a lot of young players in my time, and he’s potentially a special player."

The contract update comes right after Williams-Barnett's success for England U19s, as De Zerbi may now be keen on handing the youngster a chance.

If he does so, it will be up to the player to perform. But either way, the Italian can silence his Tottenham critics by giving him a chance.

Can Williams-Barnett get more game time with new deal?

Chelsea and Manchester United are believed to be monitoring Williams-Barnett's progress, with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also keen.

Tottenham let several young stars go in the summer, as Luka Vuskovic, Alfie Devine, Ashley Phillips and Will Lankshear departed, while a decision was made to send Mikey Moore on loan.

Williams-Barnett could break the trend of youngsters not being able to get a chance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It's understood that the player himself expects to get minutes throughout the season, which was discussed when he signed his current deal last October.

If Williams-Barnett does sign on the dotted line, De Zerbi could reward him with more opportunities.
