Tottenham Hotspur could part ways with Cristian Romero this summer, with a new exit price seemingly being set.

Spurs' downfall has been down to a multitude of factors, but perhaps none as prominent as the character of the squad.

And in regard to that, Romero's character is the one that has been questioned the most, and for good reason.

The Argentine has become somewhat of a liability over the last 12 months, with several red cards in the previous campaign.

Romero was linked with an exit to Atletico Madrid last summer, though that move failed to materialise mainly due to the finances involved.

And that deal could yet be back on the cards, albeit this time at a much lower price than Spurs will have hoped for.

Tottenham set new asking price for Cristian Romero

Having now signed Marco Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, Tottenham certainly have the room to part ways with Romero, should they choose to do so.

But if they do, they may do so for just £25million.

That is because a report from Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sports Witness, states that that is what the price has been reduced to.

Romero was previously valued at £65m, making it a perfect "market opportunity" for Diego Simeone's side.

Van Hecke's arrival in particular makes it unlikely that Romero will be a starter in North London next season, perhaps increasing the likelihood of an exit.

What is Romero's contract situation?

The main reason that Tottenham may not be willing to sanction an exit at that price is due to his contract status.

Romero still has three years left on his deal come the end of June, meaning that they are under no immediate pressure to sell him for less than their own valuation.

Of course, that stance may change if the defender were to agitate for a move, which may not be beyond the realms of possibility given his attitude over the last 12 months.

As of right now, however, there are certainly more signs pointing towards an exit for the Argentine than there are signs pointing towards another campaign with Tottenham.
