Tottenham Hotspur could have serious regrets should they let Luka Vuskovic leave this summer.

The defender is returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a sensational loan spell with Hamburg.

Making the loan switch following his Spurs arrival last summer, the young Croatian would become talismanic in the Bundesliga.

Alongside his imperious performances at the back, Vuskovic would end the term as the Red Shorts' second highest goalscorer with six, while he struck up an immense connection with the fanbase.

However, his future in North London is in doubt, with the Lilywhites adding Marcos Senesi to their ranks, while Jan Paul van Hecke is also set to join up with the squad.

With his future up in the air, there is one clear option for Vuskovic that is staring right at Tottenham.

Emotional connection could have huge say in Luka Vuskovic decision

At just 19, the centre-back has a mature head on his shoulders.

Across his spell at the Volksparkstadion, he showed experience well beyond his years, while he stepped up as Hamburg secured survival in their first Bundesliga campaign in eight years.

However, he was always going to become a favourite in the Hanseatic City, given his established family connections with the club.

Brother Mario is also on the HSV books, though he is currently serving a doping ban, with his return set for later this year.

Throughout the 2025-26 season, Spurs loanee Luka continued to mention his desire to play alongside his brother - also a centre-back by trade.

If Tottenham are to lose Vuskovic this summer, a loan move back to Hamburg would make complete sense.

It would mean another year of top level football, at a huge club, while the connection is always there.

For the defender himself too, it means that one big task can be ticked off his bucket list, playing alongside his older brother before he embarks on what is sure to be a remarkable career.

Tottenham must avoid careless decision with Vuskovic

Heading into next season, the simple fact of the matter is that Tottenham would be stupid to let the defender leave on a permanent basis this summer.

At 19, he is one of, if not the most highly rated young defender in football, with the sky being the limit for the Croatian.

Even if he is not a direct part of Roberto De Zerbi's immediate plans, a lot can change in 12 months.

A loan move now would make much more sense. Not only for his development, but also for his price tag this time next year, if the Lilywhites do have plans of moving him on at some point.

For now, Tottenham cannot rush into a decision, and must look to continue developing Vuskovic for as long as they can.
