Tottenham backed to sell Cristian Romero to Manchester United after World Cup scenes

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero leaving for Manchester United would make sense.

That is the view of Spurs expert John Wenham, speaking after his showing in the World Cup final.

The 28-year-old had an impressive tournament as he helped his side reach the showcase in Metlife Stadium, where they suffered defeat to Spain.

Tottenham News has previously revealed Wenham's thoughts that Romero would move on.

While he previously thought a switch to Atletico Madrid was on the cards, he now believes that the Red Devils would be an option.

However, he does not see that as the Argentine's likely destination when all is said and done.

Where does John Wenham think Cristian Romero will end up?

Wenham raised the possibility of an Old Trafford reunion with his compatriot Lisandro Martinez, who Romero has formed a solid partnership with on the international stage.

However, the Lilywhite Rose account owner, ultimately believes that Italy will be where he ends up.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think you look at Man United and they must see how well him and Martinez play together at the back.

"I know there was an earlier link in the window out of Argentina which I took that as a pinch of salt at the time, it seemed to me like agent talk to try and encourage someone else to move for him.

“Actually thinking about it now he would be a really good signing for Man United.

“He would bring them some leadership and as partner with Martinez at the back like they do for their country, it would be a really good move, but I still think it will be probably Serie A where he returns to.

“I’ve noticed in the Italian league, suddenly out of nowhere, after a 10 year drought, are spending serious money.

“I’m seeing Roma putting down £39million for Crysencio Summerville, we’ve also seen AC Milan spend £62m on Goncalo Ramos from PSG.”

Would Tottenham really let Romero leave?

It is not exactly unlikely that Spurs would consider an exit for Romero, despite his impressive campaign at the tournament.

They have signed Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, leaving them with an overload at centre-back.

The former Genoa and Atalanta man has often been slammed for being too reckless, and put his side into bad situations.

Therefore, it would not be a surprise if the 58-cap international was allowed to move.
