The fraction Tottenham are set to lose from Djed Spence sale as Inter Milan transfer close

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to a deal to sell Djed Spence to Inter Milan.

The right-back is set to join the Italian side on a long-term deal after it was made clear that he would not be likely to start under Roberto De Zerbi.

Though he can play at either full-back position, Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro are likely to start, which made him seek a new challenge.

Spence enjoyed a successful individual campaign with England at the World Cup, and the fee the Lilywhites are letting him go for has baffled some supporters.

The 26-year-old came to N17 in July of 2022 after completing a £20million switch from Middlesbrough, and took his time to settle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spence will now be moving on; however, Tottenham will owe a percentage of the fee to Boro.

Fabrizio Romano shared an update on X this Wednesday that a verbal agreement is in place for Spence to join Inter Milan.

A transfer fee has been agreed in the region of £26.9m, which will act as a profit on Spurs' books.

However, the Northern Echo have reported that Middlesbrough are owed 15 per cent of profits made on the player.

The Teessiders are said to have been paid in full for Spence after the £20m package deal they agreed with Tottenham included several add-ons, which have all been met.

This means that Boro will be owed 15 per cent of £6.9m.

This equates to £1.035m, and if the deal rises to £30m, Boro could be owed a further £465,000.

Tottenham have a good business relationship with the North East club, and remain in talks with Kim Hellberg's side over a separate deal.

The latest on Tottenham sale to Middlesbrough

Tottenham have already sold Hotspur Way product Will Lankshear to Middlesbrough for a fee in the region of £8m up front, with add-ons possibly taking the deal to £20m.

They have also been in talks to sell centre-back Ashley Phillips, though a permanent move has hit a hitch.

After visiting Middlesbrough's training complex, it's understood that Boro identified an issue with the player during his medical.

An update from Alan Nixon on his Patreon this Wednesday, states that Boro are trying to restructure the deal, which is not completely off the table.

The initial agreement was worth £7m, which also included add-ons that could take the transfer to £20m.

Boro and Spurs are far from done in their business this month.
