The Inter Milan contract that Djed Spence is set to sign as Tottenham compromise begins

Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan have some minor Djed Spence discrepancies to iron out.

Roberto De Zerbi doesn't appear to have the 26-year-old in his Tottenham plans.

That's despite the Englishman having a superb World Cup this summer, with his standout performances in Thomas Tuchel's side undoubtedly bolstering his transfer value.

Inter Milan have been heavily linked with signing Spence for weeks, and are seemingly on the verge of a major breakthrough in negotiations.

With Andy Robertson arriving and Pedro Porro signing a new long-term contract, as well as further competition behind those two, Spence may now feel he needs to leave N17 to guarantee himself minutes.

But despite Inter being close to securing his signature, the deal isn't quite done just yet.

How Djed Spence feels about signing for Inter Milan

Inter could be a fantastic move for Spence, offering him the chance to carve out a larger role than his current Tottenham one whilst still turning out for a top European side in Serie A.

However, a deal is still to be agreed between the two clubs, and as things stand, there is a gap in valuation between Inter and Spurs.

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that the Italians feel confident that a total package worth £30million would be enough for Spurs to sell.

However, a conflicting report from Italian outlet Calciomercato states that the Lilywhites are still asking for a fee of around £34m, which given the spending power of the two clubs, is an issue sure to be ironed out.

The latter report also claims that negotiations are still taking place this week, and that both sides are working towards a compromise on the transfer fee.

Calciomercato also claim that Spence has greenlit a move to Milan, and once a deal is agreed, there is the potential for him to quickly sign a four-year contract with Cristian Chivu's side.

So, if he does indeed sign with Inter, Spence will be the latest English player to make the switch to Serie A, but how have some of the most recent players to make the move from these shores to Italy fared?

Why Serie A switch could be kind to Spence

Already this summer, there has been a host of English players making the move to Serie A.

John Stones, Trevoh Chalobah, Jay Robinson and Harry Winks are all now plying their trade in Italy's top division.

They join an already sizeable list of English players playing in Serie A, and most who have made moves there recently have made a success out of it.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has played over 100 times for AC Milan since signing from Chelsea in 2023, and Jamie Vardy scored seven times in 29 games in a relegated Cremonese side last term.

Meanwhile, Lloyd Kelly has established himself as a key starting player at Juventus, Jonathan Rowe enjoyed a superb debut season with Bologna in 2025-26 and Brooke Norton-Cuffy is emerging as a star player for Genoa respectively.

So, Spence should feel confident that he can follow in their footsteps should his transfer to Inter eventually go through this summer.
