Roberto De Zerbi to thank as 'unbelievable' development lands player new Tottenham contract
Roberto De Zerbi has already worked wonders as Tottenham manager, not least with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
In the view of Tottenham expert John Wenham, the "unbelievable" turnaround the goalkeeper has shown is down to the management skills of De Zerbi.
The Italian did exactly what he was asked to in keeping Spurs in the Premier League
De Zerbi was appointed at the end of March following Igor Tudor's rather dismal spell.
That followed on from Thomas Frank's equally-as-bad tenure, which ended far more swiftly than anyone could have imagined.
Kinsky in many ways will be the poster boy for Tudor's tenure, having been hauled off early on in the Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid, but things have since changed for the better.
Roberto De Zerbi still has big call to make on Antonin Kinsky
It has been widely reported this week that Tottenham will offer Kinsky a new long-term deal.
From looking certain to being on his way out to being tied down for the long term, it really has been quite the turnaround.
De Zerbi must now decide whether to stick with Kinsky as first choice this coming season, with Martin Dubravka arriving on a free transfer.
In the view of Wenham, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, the number one shirt is now Kinsky's to lose.
"Unbelievable," Wenham said of Kinsky's turnaround in form. "I also think he'll probably get the number one shirt as well.
"We saw those comments from De Zerbi towards the end of the season where he said, before he brought him in for that Sunderland game, he was thinking of even making him the captain to show him kind of how important he was just for that one-off game.
"There were some unbelievable saves that kept us in the division. He's only 23 years of age - I think he's deserved the opportunity to establish himself as Tottenham's number one.”
Why Kinsky contract matters more than you think
Kinsky is set to sign a four-year extension with Spurs, potentially meaning they have tied down their long-term number one.
Some will still have doubts over that, but the good news is that Spurs have been proactive.
There was no major rush to tie down the Czech right now, but the Lilywhites now know they are future-proofed in that area.
Fans will be eager for more new signings to be made on top of the four already through the door, but agreeing new contracts behind the scenes is equally important.
On his current trajectory, there is no reason why Kinsky cannot go from strength to strength in a Tottenham shirt.
