Meet Gabriel Rigg: The versatile gem Tottenham have poached from rivals West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur are making moves to shore up the potential future of their defence.

Roberto De Zerbi made a number of defensive signings this summer in the hopes of immediately improving his first-team side.

Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Tosin Adarabioyo all made moves to N17.

Spurs' defence appears to have turned a corner in recent games, too, keeping back-to-back clean sheets against Nottingham Forest and Everton.

And whilst the transfer window may now be shut, that doesn't prevent the Lilywhites from bolstering their academy ranks.

That's precisely what they've done over the weekend, whilst simultaneously weakening a bitter London rival.

Where can new Tottenham signing Gabriel Rigg play?

Tottenham will always be able to attract quality young players to their academy.

Spurs' senior side may be going through a rough period at the moment, but their youth sides are faring well.

Indeed, the Under-21s won the Premier League 2 title in 2023-24, and finished eighth last term after placing 22nd in 2024-25.

Meanwhile, the Under-18s finished second in the U18 Premier League South table last term.

Tottenham clearly are doing something right at Hotspur Way when it comes to their young talent then.

And as detailed in an X post via The Talent Hunter, their youth ranks have been bolstered further as Spurs have signed Gabriel Rigg from West Ham.

The 15-year-old has been with the Hammers for the last three years, and can operate at both centre-back and left-back.

It's also stated that he's playing up an age group, too, showing he's a mature young defender beyond his years.

Leaving West Ham for Tottenham will already make Gabriel popular with Lilywhites fans, but who are some other players to have done the same?

One of the most popular and deadly strikers in Tottenham's modern history, Jermaine Defoe joined West Ham's academy as a teenager.

He then moved to Spurs in 2004 and went on to craft his ever-lasting legacy at White Hart Lane.

Michael Carrick is another who swapped West Ham for Tottenham in 2004, but would only spend two years with Spurs before joining Manchester United.

A 1966 World Cup winner with England, Martin Peters also left the Hammers to join Spurs in 1970, becoming one of the finest midfielders of his era.

Another superb midfielder, Paul Allen spent eight years with Tottenham between 1985-1993 after coming through at West Ham.

So, could Rigg be the next future Tottenham star to forge his N17 legacy after leaving the Hammers? Time will tell.
