Lucas Bergvall tells Roberto De Zerbi the one thing that'll keep him at Tottenham - he needs a rethink
Lucas Bergvall has endured an inconsistent spell at Tottenham Hotspur, but he is hoping that now changes.
The 20-year-old arrived from Djurgarden in 2024, and has failed to make a real name for himself in North London.
He has shown his quality in spells, but mustered just 967 Premier League minutes last term.
As a result, his future does remain in doubt this summer - a topic he has now spoken out on in his homeland.
Roberto De Zerbi took over in April, handing two starts for the midfielder, before he picked up just 10 minutes in the final three of the term.
Thinking of the coming season, Bergvall may have to be prepared to make a big decision, even if it is not what he initially envisaged.
What has Lucas Bergvall said on Tottenham future?
Tottenham have had a big summer thus far, with Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson joining the club, as well as goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Fernandes in particular is one to watch out for for Bergvall, with the Portugal U21 international guaranteed to start in midfield.
Speaking to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet on Thursday, the midfielder did make one demand to his manager.
"I want continuous playing time in my position," he said.
"That's the goal. We'll see what happens in the future. I've only focused on the World Cup for now."
Bergvall is seemingly set to stay at Spurs as things stand, despite enduring an "inconsistent" time in North London in the view of Chris Waddle.
But, now Sweden's World Cup exit is confirmed, plans may well be put in place to seal a move away - one that could benefit the player.
Bergvall cannot hold a candle to new Tottenham star
Throughout his time at the club, Bergvall has proven himself to be neat and tidy, but has failed to nail down a regular spot in the side.
In the league last term, he completed just 23 passes per 90, with 0.93 long balls and 0.47 chances created.
At the same time, he registered 2.05 tackles per 90, out of 7.27 defensive contributions overall.
New signing Fernandes, on the other hand, is all action in comparison.
In 63.10 touches per 90, the 21-year-old completed 40.65 at a success rate of 87.5 per cent, with 3.27 long balls and 1.10 chances created.
At the other end of the field, he racked up 10.95 defensive contributions while winning 1.46 fouls a match of his own.
Always looking to get on the ball and make something happen, Fernandes could be a real difference maker in North London - something Bergvall has not lived up to, despite being neat and tidy with the ball at his feet.
