Jason Steele has been added to Tottenham Hotspur's list of goalkeeper targets this summer, as the Brighton man has previously worked under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Lilywhites have already gotten their summer transfer window off to a flying start with the arrivals of Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Spurs have addressed their backline and will continue to do so, as they look to sign a backup goalkeeper.

Tottenham have already been linked with a move for Burnley's Martin Dubravka, with uncertainty remaining around Guglielmo Vicario and Antonin Kinsky.

De Zerbi is keen to add to multiple areas, and attention will soon turn to attacking options as the countdown to pre-season is on.

Having already signed van Hecke from Brighton, Spurs seem to be keen on reuniting De Zerbi with another one of his former stars from the Seagulls in Steele.

Jason Steele has already revealed his love for Roberto De Zerbi

According toa report from The Athletic this Tuesday, Tottenham have added Steele's name to a list of candidates to become the reserve goalkeeper.

This doesn't particularly rule out a move for Dubravka, but it certainly asks further questions of Kinsky's future.

De Zerbi was willing to give Steele a huge chance at Brighton, especially during the 2022-23 season, where the Englishman was handed over 20 appearances.

Speaking to Brighton about the Italian head coach, Steele admitted how much influence the now Spurs boss had on his resurgence.

Steele said: "I kept on believing that I was going to get a chance. I did a lot of studying, a lot of homework, watching different goalkeepers, and watching the boss's old goalkeepers.

"As soon as he [De Zerbi] came here, I went straight upstairs and watched [Anatoliy] Trubin, who was at Shakhtar Donetsk, and I watched him for hours to understand what he was staying and expected to try and achieve.

"I watched a lot of Sassuolo in the build-up, and I watched them for hours, so I had a basis of what was going to be demanded."

The 35-year-old has said in the past that the Tottenham boss has "changed" his life, and now he could be coached by the Italian once again in N17.

Steele continued to have another season under De Zerbi in the 2023-24 campaign, where he finished as one of the Premier League's most accurate goalkeeper's for distribution.

Steele's distribution stats in detail may turn Tottenham heads

The future of Vicario will soon be resolved, as the noise also suggests that Kinsky is not in De Zerbi's plans, too.

Though Steele may be an overlooked target by supporters, there are clear reasons why the Spurs boss will be keen on wanting to work with him once again.

Steele had major success with his distribution during the 2022-23 campaign, as he finished the Premier League season with a long ball accuracy of 55.1 per cent.

He also had a passing success ratio of 88 per cent, and even grabbed an assist.

The former Sunderland shot-stopper is more experienced now and could come to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for peanuts this summer.
