Why Roberto De Zerbi is spot on with Mikey Moore call as Tottenham line-up named vs Charlton

Roberto De Zerbi has made some big calls for Tottenham Hotspur's Carabao Cup clash with Charlton.

After the debacle that was Tottenham's Premier League curtain-raising defeat to Brentford, a big response is needed on Wednesday night.

Spurs welcome Championship Charlton to N17, as the Lilywhites enter this season's Carabao Cup.

The Addicks, meanwhile, took care of Cheltenham 3-1 in the first round, and have followed that up with league wins over Derby and West Ham.

As such, this should be a hotly contested London derby, with the visitors sure to get stuck in and test Tottenham's mental resolve.

One player who didn't shy away from that test on Saturday was Mikey Moore.

With questions still lingering over his Spurs future ahead of the transfer deadline, Moore has deserved to win another starting opportunity.

Why Moore was one of few Spurs players to come out of Brentford with credit

Moore did come in for some criticism for his Brentford display, particularly in relation to the number of chances he squandered.

Indeed, the 19-year-old put three shots on goal against the Bees, all on target, two of which being fairly tame attempts though.

As a result, it could've been easy for De Zerbi to drop him to the bench against Charlton, but he's stuck by him, and rightly so.

Per FotMob, he completed 11 of his 13 (85 per cent) pass attempts successfully against Brentford, and was successful with his two dribble attempts.

On top of that, he was also accurate with his lone cross attempt, and won every single one of his four ground duels.

Moore won one foul and conceded none of his own, whilst his 2.1kilometres spent running was the fifth-most of any player on the pitch.

Yes, he was poor in front of goal last weekend, but he, unlike many others, didn't stop competing and battling for every ball, encapsulating what Spurs fans want to see.

So, against a weaker Charlton side, should Moore replicate those numbers and get numerous sighters in front of goal again, expect him to punish the Championship outfit.

With speculation mounting over a imminent loan exit for Moore too, Wednesday night could be his last chance to make a big impression on De Zerbi.
