Tottenham are faced with a big decision this summer regarding the future of Luka Vuskovic.

The defender is set to return from an impressive loan spell with Hamburger SV, where he proved talismanic.

Despite this, the 19-year-old could be on his way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, without making a competitive appearance.

Marcos Senesi has been added to the squad, an announcement is pending for Jan Paul van Hecke, and Micky van de Ven is set to stay in North London.

All of this leads Vuskovic's future in doubt, with Brighton recently seeing a £35million bid rejected.

Tottenham need to avoid having regrets about a potential deal, though, and have been given a sample of work to look through as he made his World Cup debut for Croatia.

Luka Vuskovic provides Tottenham with food for thought

Opening their World Cup campaign with a clash against England, Croatia would fall to an eventual 4-2 defeat in Dallas on Wednesday evening.

They would not go without their moments, though, with Martin Baturina and Petar Musa pegging the Three Lions back twice before half time.

Starting alongside the hardened international pair of Josko Gvardiol and Josip Sutalo, youngster Vuskovic would not once look out of place - a testament to how mature he is at such a young age

In possession, Zlatko Dalic would call upon his defenders to make the difference, with Vuskovic completing 37 out of his 42 passess, at an 88-per-cent success rate.

Croatia would have 48 per cent of the ball across the 90, with the ball spent with the back three for the majority.

Alongside being comfortable on the ball, Vuskovic arguably put in the best performance out of the trio, with the wide pair troubled the most by England's attacking display.

With seven defensive contributions in total, Vuskovic made one block, five clearances and one interception - registering six recoveries in the process.

It was not the finest of displays, but Vuskovic - hailed as "monstrous" by French journalist Polo Breitner in the past - has most definitely given Roberto De Zerbi something to think about.

At just 19, he did not once appear fazed by the occasion, against a side expected to reach the latter stages, and for that he deserves his praise despite the eventual loss.

Tottenham should hang their heads in shame at what's happening with Luka Vuskovic right now

What comes next for Vuskovic?

As of now, Vuskovic remains a Tottenham player despite the exit talk.

With his future in the air, the Lilywhites must ensure that they do not make a decision they will come to regret.

At such an age, the young Croatian is one of, if not the most highly rated young defender in the world.

As a result, Spurs must do all they can to keep hold of him for the time being.

A move away may be the best option, but there is no reason why this cannot be a loan.

At Hamburg in particular, Vuskovic struck a strong connection, and there has already been talk of a temporary return.

This could be a switch that makes sense for all parties, with Vuskovic continuing his development, while Spurs keep hold of a star in the making with an increased price tag, should they wish to move him on at some point.
