Tottenham should hang their heads in shame at what's happening with Luka Vuskovic right now
Tottenham Hotspur are looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, and could be set to make a massive blunder with Luka Vuskovic already.
The defender returns to North London this summer, after a successful loan spell with Bundesliga side Hamburger SV.
Joining the Red Shorts as they faced their first top-flight campaign in seven years, the 19-year-old would become talismanic at the Volksparkstadion.
However, a Tottenham departure could well be on the cards this summer, despite being one of the highest-rated talents in the game.
Spurs are looking to rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi after he guided them to safety at the end of the season.
And as he moulds the team in his image, it is looking likely that Vuskovic is not part of his plans - something that Tottenham could well regret.
Luka Vuskovic update emerges as Tottenham seal £52m deal
With deals recently confirmed for Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, De Zerbi is set to land his third signing of the summer in Jan Paul van Hecke.
David Ornstein reports that Spurs have reached an agreement with Brighton to sign the defender for a fee of £52million.
The Dutchman is currently away with his national team at the World Cup, but will return to England as a Tottenham player.
Brighton, though, are interested in Tottenham defender Vuskovic, with the Van Hecke report suggesting that these are two separate deals, with the second offer of £35m rejected.
Alongside the signings of Senesi and Van Hecke, talismanic defender Micky van de Ven is also set to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
With these three, alongside Kevin Danso there as options at the back, Vuskovic may well be on his way out - a decision that is extremely puzzling given just how highly rated he is.
Will Tottenham regret Luka Vuskovic decision?
Of course, there is still a chance that the Croatian stays in North London.
However, the signs at the moment do point in the direction of a potential exit, with there being no confirmation that Spurs are unwilling to negotiate.
Brighton would be a great spot for him personally given their record with developing talent, and willingness to negotiate a sale.
But, he could well be a player worth a fee more than double that of Van Hecke in the coming years, and it is no coincidence that some of the world's best teams would love him in their backline
There is still room for growth, but cashing in on him now may just be the first blunder of the summer - irrespective of the positive steps taken with Tottenham's recruitment thus far.
