Tottenham fans all on same page in Pedro Porro captaincy debate
Tottenham Hotspur fans are certain in their decision as to who should take the captain's armband next season.
While no deal has been done yet, current skipper Cristian Romero is set to leave the club this summer.
The Argentine was handed the armband a year ago, following the departure of Son Heung-min.
Starting the season as a popular figure, Romero's reputation would worsen over the campaign, with the Lilywhites dragged into a relegation battle.
Now, with a departure on the cards, Spurs fans are debating who should take the armband next term.
Considering this, full-back Pedro Porro has been a popular choice, with some fans certain on the decision.
Tottenham fans debate next captain amid Roberto De Zerbi rebuild
It has been a big summer for Spurs, who have invested heavily ahead of Roberto De Zerbi's first full season at the helm.
The Italian may also have to find himself a new captain too, with Romero set to leave, especially after the signings of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi.
James Maddison emerged as a potential option in a discussion on X, though supporters quickly highlighted Porro as a more suitable option.
The Maddison comparisons would continue, with one supporter saying: "Porro because Maddison is made of glass, sadly."
However, some fans would remain keen on the idea of Maddison in a vice-captain role, as a backup option for Porro, saying that it is "non-negotiable".
Porro signed for Tottenham in 2023, and has become one of the Premier League's best full-backs in the division.
Spurs' fortunes in recent years have not helped his reputation, but a strong season under De Zerbi could alter that.
A strong season wearing the armband, and the conversations around his name change completely.
Why Pedro Porro makes sense as captain appointment
The fact of the matter is that Porro is undroppable out on the right.
In a Tottenham side that struggled for quality in the middle of the park last season, the Spaniard was often required to work overtime out wide and more centrally - he still thrived.
With Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali arriving this summer, he will be able to operate wider areas again, and join the fun in the middle as an extra man, rather than someone relied upon for quality in build-up.
With superb passing range, exquisite set-piece abilities and an attitude in which fans love, he could become the talismanic skipper that Spurs crave as they look to climb the standings under De Zerbi.
Porro has gained an unfair reputation as a result of the North London club's struggles, but this could change completely if he takes on the armband.
