Tottenham expert tells Roberto De Zerbi what he can't do with Marcos Senesi vs Coventry
Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has no choice but to start Marcos Senesi against Coventry.
That is the view of Spurs expert John Wenham, after what he witnessed in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday.
Senesi started the contest at Old Trafford with Micky van de Ven remaining on the bench until the 74th minute.
The former Bournemouth man gave a brilliant account of himself against the Red Devils in a tense encounter.
While he could do little to stop Bryan Mbuemo's goal, he was a key reason why the Lilywhites never conceded more and played a crucial part in attack too.
As a result, Wenham feels like he can't be axed for the upcoming Monday clash with the Sky Blues.
What was said about Marcos Senesi's starting chances vs Coventry?
The Lilywhite Rose account owner has told De Zerbi that he must start Senesi against the newly-promoted side.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "It's hard to take him out of the team now.
"You can't base it on reputations, we just need wins on the board, and you can't take Senesi out of that starting line-up now.
"He has to be in it against Coventry, he's earned his place."
Wenham has pleaded Senesi's case, but what do the stats say about his performance?
What do the stats tell us about Senesi's chances?
The data suggests the same as Wenham, that the defender who joined Spurs on a free transfer is undroppable.
He took 80 touches and completed 86 per cent of his passes in the clash, per FotMob data.
The Argentinian also created two chances for his teammates and made 13 passes into the final third.
He made one tackle, one clearance and one interceptions, as well as eight recoveries.
In terms of duels, he won two of four on the ground and the only one that he contested in the air.
If De Zerbi axes him for the contest against Frank Lampard's side, he may be making a huge mistake
As Wenham states, Spurs need consistency rather than chopping and changing, and Senesi's performance against United is not one that deserves to be on the bench in the next match.
