Andy Robertson's loss is Tottenham's gain as Scotland on verge of World Cup exit
Andy Robertson looks set for an early return to pre-season for Tottenham Hotspur with Scotland on the cusp of a World Cup exit.
Spurs have made good progress already this summer with the signings of Roberston, Marco Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke.
All but one of whom have featured at the World Cup.
Van Hecke scored his first international goal for the Netherlands last time out, while Senesi has yet to make an appearance for Argentina.
However, for Roberston, his World Cup looks set to end in misery, with Scotland now relying on several results, many of which are very unrealistic, to have a chance of staying in the comeptition.
But for Spurs, that will prove to be a good thing.
How has Andy Robertson fared for Scotland?
While it has been a fairly dreadful campaign for the Tartan Army, it has been a fairly productive one for Tottenham's recent arrival.
Robertson has featured in all three of their encounters at the tournament, and has impressed in them.
Only 12.3 per cent of full-backs at the World Cup can better his number of successful passes, with the defender also ranking among the top 18.5 per cent for the number of crosses completed.
Both of which will be key to him being a success at Tottenham under Roberto De Zerbi.
The former Liverpool star created three chances across the three games he played, with one those having been deemed as a big chance.
For him, his pending exit from the World Cup will be a disappointment, but for Spurs, it will afford them some extra time to incorporate him into the squad.
When will Robertson join Tottenham's pre-season?
Presuming Scotland are eliminated before the knockouts, it will not be long until Robertson joins the squad.
Players returning from the World Cup are afforded a minimum of three weeks to have a break from football, before then linking up with their respetive clubs.
For Robertson, that means he is likely to be with his new teammates around a week after their pre-season plans get underway on 13 July.
Tottenham's first pre-season encounter will see them take on MK Dons in a behind-closed-doors match at Hotspur Way on 22 July, though it's unlikely the Scotsman will have a part to play in that.
Instead, he is most likely to join the squad for their trip to New Zealand.
