Inter Milan are growing in confidence over striking a deal with Tottenham Hotspur for Djed Spence.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer.

His standout World Cup campaign with England has only served to further shine a spotlight on his Spurs situation, with it yet unclear how strongly he features in Roberto De Zerbi's plans.

Numerous sides across Europe have been touted with Spence this summer, but one of the most consistently linked clubs has been Inter.

But with only weeks to go in the transfer window, Spurs are going to have to make a decision on the versatile defender soon.

Inter have been playing the patient game with him so far, and now that strategy could be set to pay off for the Serie A giants.

Why Inter think a discount Djed Spence deal is on the cards

News of Spence's potential Tottenham transfer exit had seemingly started to go quiet over the past week or so.

However, that's now set to change as we begin to approach the 1 September transfer deadline.

According to a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport on Tuesday, as Anan Khalaili closes in on his move to Crystal Palace, Inter's route to a Spence swoop has become clearer.

The report claims that those from the Italian camp who've been handling the negotiations with Tottenham over Spence have now informed Inter's sporting director Piero Ausilio that Spurs' financial demands could be lowered.

It's claimed that this could be set to happen due to the Lilywhites having received no concrete offers for Spence, despite the fact he's a player on the transfer list.

If this is correct, then this all but confirms that Tottenham are indeed looking to offload the defender this summer, and that they may even be prepared to take a smaller fee than they'd ideally like to get him off the books.

But what is the fee Tottenham are set to bank for Spence, and how far away is his N17 exit from being confirmed?

Why last few hours have proven crucial to Spence's Spurs exit

Indeed, it appears that sources in Italy are now all but convinced that Spence is Milan-bound.

That's because a different report on Tuesday from La Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that Inter have come to a decision on Spence, and that is that he's their man.

It's claimed that over the last few hours, both parties have now almost reached an agreement over the transfer, with the fee expected to be in the region of £25.6million plus bonuses.

This report states that so long as negotiations don't hit any snags or unforeseen issues, Spence will join Inter as their Denzel Dumfries replacement, who has this summer signed for Real Madrid.

It's claimed that Inter would like the deal done before their Serie A season starts on 22 August, and that the plan was always to wait for Tottenham to lower their original asking price of around £34m.
