Tottenham expert names the player he'd sell to keep Djed Spence
Tottenham should sell Destiny Udogie in order to keep Djed Spence.
That is the verdict from Spurs expert John Wenham, as the England defender's future is under constant speculation.
Tottenham News shared the insider's view that Tottenham should take the interest from Inter Milan seriously on Saturday.
He believes that Everton are not a legit contender for his services, due to their low spend on the position in recent years.
He has called for the N17 outfit to not sell the Three Lions ace, who starred at the World Cup and let the Italian leave instead.
But why does Wenham believe that Udogie should be sacrificed in order to keep the 25-year-old around?
Why should Tottenham sell Destiny Udogie?
It is a combination of Spence's showing at the World Cup and Udogie's injury history.
The Lilywhite Rose owner believes that should convince Roberto De Zerbi to part ways with his compatriot and start the Englishman at left-back.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "Based on what he's done for England, he should be our starting left-back.
"You'd have Pedro Porro on the left, you'd have Djed on the right, and Andy Robertson also on the left, and it would be Udogie that I'd look to move on.
"I think Udogie is a good player, but he is always injured. Personally, I don't think Spence should be being sold, and I'd rather the Italian left than Spence."
How do Djed Spence and Udogie compare?
Spence played 30 times in the league last season, with Udogie only making 20 appearances.
The Englishman made 1.93 tackles, 4.86 recoveries and 2.28 clearances, compared to figures of 2.08, 4.70 and 1.68 for Udogie, per Fotmob.
Spence won 47.6 per cent of his ground duels and 46.9 per cent in the air, while his rival won 50 per cent and 38.1 per cent, which is not too different.
Ultimately, the former is available more often and there is not exactly a huge margin between their numbers that would make selling him a mistake.
If they get an offer, they should consider it, especially if it lets them fend off interest in Spence and find him a place in the side.
