Tottenham can still bank £17m for Richarlison after new talks - but there's a catch

Tottenham Hotspur have been left in a predicament with Richarlison.

The Lilywhites were open to selling the Brazil international in the summer window, and a deal in principle was agreed with Everton.

However, the striker rejected the move to his former club and was unable to find another team before the deadline.

Richarlison has subsequently been left out of Roberto De Zerbi's 25-man squad for the season, and may not be able to play football again until January.

But the 29-year-old has been in out-of-window talks with Brazilian side Vasco da Gama over a move.

Richarlison is open to joining Vasco da Gama, with the Brazilian side ready to pay a permanent fee for the Tottenham castaway.

How Vasco da Gama want to structure package deal for Richarlison

Richarlison was Tottenham's leading goal scorer after last season, so the decision to leave him out of the squad for this campaign has been nothing short of controversial.

Some would argue that it's the player's fault that he may not play again for several months, especially after turning down a move to Everton for financial reasons.

According to Vasco da Gama expert Leo Lacerda on X, the Brazilian side have put together a £17million package deal sought after by Spurs for the forward.

The deal would be a fixed £12.9m fee that could rise to £17m in total if further add-ons are met.

This would see the Lilywhites pocket £3.22m every April from 2027 until 2030 at the very least, with a four-year deal discussed for Richarlison.

The transfer window is still open in Brazil, so it's a matter of time on whether Tottenham make the sale or not.

What does Richarlison want and when will deal be resolved?

The Brazilian transfer window slams shut on Friday, so a full agreement needs to happen immediately.

However, Richarlison would only prefer a short-term move to the Brazilian side, which puts a financial injection at risk for Spurs.

That said, it's now reported that the player is seeking legal options and has made an approach to FIFA about ripping up his contract at Tottenham with just cause.

His argument would be that the Lilywhites are preventing him from exercising his profession, and this could see him join Vasco da Gama for free.

Who knows? Perhaps he will push for this route out of spite for Tottenham.
