Tottenham blasted for 'appalling' Djed Spence developments - 'It's madness'

Tottenham should be demanding a higher fee for Djed Spence.

That is the view of Spurs insider John Wenham, who believes that the reported £30million fee is not enough.

The 26-year-old found himself out of Roberto De Zerbi's plans, with Pedro Porro preferred on the right, while Andy Robertson and Destiny Udogie play on the left.

He had been linked with Everton, but Inter Milan look like they are set to seal his signature.

The financial aspect of the deal has left Wenham unsatisfied, and he has previously revealed his desire for the 14-cap international to stay put.

It seems he will not get his wish, though, and he will depart N17 in the coming days after the latest update.

Spence is understood to be in Italy conducting his medical with the Serie A outfit, after a total agreement was reached, according to a report from Sky Sports.

The Lilywhite Rose account owner believes that the money that Spurs are going to bank is not enough.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “That is just an appalling fee for Djed Spence.

“That’s such a low fee for a player that’s got four years on his contract, has come off the high of the World Cup, he’s a marketable player, he’s a player that kids and the younger generation seen him play for England in the summer would have got him on the back of the shirt.

“His ability on the football pitch, he can cover both flanks, he’s homegrown, it’s a ridiculously low fee for a player of what he covers and what he gives you and it’ll cost us more to replace him.

“I am really disappointed with the fee, it had to be a minimum of £40-45 million pounds, not £30m, that is just abysmal, that means that we’ve signed him and made a £10m profit having taken him from a championship prospect to a full England Premier League international.

“It’s madness.”

If Spence performs well in Italy and proves himself as a top player, it might look very bad on De Zerbi for sanctioning the deal.
