Tottenham agree mutual exit as insider reacts to new announcements

Tottenham Hotspur are already the busiest Premier League club this summer.

Roberto De Zerbi has already gotten to work to change his squad after saving Spurs from Premier League relegation.

Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have already been confirmed, with Jean Paul van Hecke to come, as the Lilywhites look to avoid a third 17th-placed finish.

So, it was no surprise that some defenders were shown the door from Hotspur Way in the annual retained list.

Yves Bissouma was the headline exit, but with Ben Davies signing a new contract, Dante Cassanova was moved on.

Despite possibly having another year on his contract in North London, a decision was reached to part ways.

Why did Dante Cassanova leave Tottenham?

It appears like it was a mutual decision between the parties.

Spurs insider, John Wenham, who runs the famous Lilywhite Rose accounts, revealed that a one-year contract option was decided against for Cassanova.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News after the latest on the squad, Wenham shared insight into the exit.

“We saw no surprises from the list I saw. The only one for me was Dante Cassanova," he said.

“When his last contract was announced last summer, it was announced until 2027.

“I understand that turned out to be Tottenham having a one-year option, and then following constructive talks between Dante and the club, it was decided that he wanted to pursue his senior career elsewhere.

“A kind of mutual decision was made that he would be released from his contract, and that would allow him, greater prospects of picking up his next club, being a free agent.”

Dante Cassanova was tipped for big things

The summer activity so far appears to have closed the door on youth talents breaking through, especially in defence.

Cassanova was tipped as a very bright talent at Hotspur Way, with a loan move noted as his next step to consistent senior football.

That won't happen, and instead, he may make that jump permanently ahead of next season.

All of this appears to be down to senior football, and Cassanova clearly sees that as unlikely under De Zerbi at Tottenham.

For now, Tottenham can't afford to take risks after two dismal years domestically, and that is just the brutal nature of football.
