Lucas Bergvall 'will leave Tottenham' as potential to be fulfilled at Premier League rivals
Lucas Bergvall seems likely to say goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks in order to fulfil his promise elsewhere.
That is the view of Spurs expert John Wenham, who believes the North London club should be looking for a fee of around £50million.
Bergvall has made clear he wants to leave Spurs in order to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
The Sweden international has spent two-and-a-half seasons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He has made 78 appearances during that time, but was restricted to just 11 Premier League starts last season.
A new adventure appears to be awaiting Bergvall, with a move to a fellow Premier League side possible.
Nottingham Forest informed of likely Lucas Bergvall fee
Nottingham Forest are one of the teams to have been credited with an interest in Bergvall.
In the view of Wenham, it is a deal that makes sense and could see Bergvall finally push on.
Forest are likely to have money to burn as Elliott Anderson is reportedly set to join Manchester City for a fee of £116million.
That is a club record for Forest and also the most ever spent on a British player.
"I think Lucas Bergvall will leave Tottenham," Wenham said. "I think he'll have a fantastic career.
"We're probably going to have to drop £85million each if we are to sign Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
"I think we'll recover between 40 and 45 million, maybe even £50m, on Bergvall. I could see the link to Nottingham Forest happening.
Forest are getting big money for Elliot Anderson, and then they can pay half that fee, or maybe a little bit under half that fee, to get Bergvall through the door.”
If Tottenham are to sign off on Bergvall's exit, though, they need to think carefully about the long term.
Tottenham need to be smart with Bergvall agreement
Landing £50m for Bergvall would be great business, especially if Tonali and/or Fernandes join in his place.
However, Spurs fans know what player Bergvall could become if he reaches the levels expected.
If that happens, £50m would then sound like a steal.
It is therefore important a sell-on clause, or indeed a buy-back clause, is interested in any agreement with Forest.
After a couple of disappointing seasons for Tottenham, it seems the right time for Bergvall to seek pastures new.
