Lucas Bergvall has his sights set on an exit from Tottenham Hotspur, and it may be the best thing for both parties.

Roberto De Zerbi had a near-immediate impact at Tottenham on the pitch last season, and he deserves his plaudits for keeping them in the Premier League.

However, his impact has been just as telling since the conclusion of the campaign in regard to the way they have gone about the summer so far.

Spurs look set for a new strategy under the Italian, with young players seemingly cast aside in favour of players ready for the here and now.

With deals lined up for Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, doubts have emerged over Bergvall's future, with Nottingham Forest keen on a deal to replace the Man City-bound Elliot Anderson.

And after his performance for Sweden against Japan at the World Cup, it demonstrates why Spurs should not be reluctant to accept it.

Sweden display exposes Lucas Bergvall flaw

Like Archie Gray, Bergvall was often one of the players to emerge with credit last season, though that was more down to effort as opposed to quality.

The Swede worked remarkably hard for the team, without every really doing too much at either end of the pitch.

And that was again the case against Japan.

His 93 per cent pass accuracy demonstrates his composure on the ball, but that is about the only positive thing you could have said about him.

Both of his attempted crosses were cut out, he created just one chance, and made just one defensive contribution, despite having played 53 minutes in a closely contested encounter.

More concerningly, he won just two of his eight duels in the game, highlighting his lack of physicality, which has often been a concern.

That was a constant theme of his game last season, where he won just 43.8 per cent of his total duels, with an average of just 4.57 per 90.

How much will Tottenham get for Bergvall?

Bergvall still has plenty of potential, and that will be reflected in the price this summer.

A report from The Standard states that they will entertain offers in the region of £45million for the midfielder, which would represent huge profit given the £8m fee paid to sign him.

Nottingham Forest still seems his most likely destination, but their stance on that valuation remains unknown.
