Lucas Bergvall: Exit-linked star at centre of 'noticeable' scenes at Tottenham media day
Lucas Bergvall is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
That is the verdict from Spurs expert John Wenham after what he saw at Tottenham's media day in North London.
The Swedish midfielder has made 78 appearances for the Lilywhites since signing from Djurgarden in 2024.
His future has come under intense scrutiny, with questions over his place in Roberto De Zerbi's squad.
The Italian has added the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes to their engine room, so Bergvall finds himself lower in the pecking order.
Nottingham Forest and Newcastle have seen bids for the exit-linked ace rejected, and Wenham believes he will stick around.
Why Lucas Bergvall will stay at Tottenham
Wenham thinks that he will stay and fight for his place in the team in N17 this season.
The Lilywhite Rose owner spotted how prominently he featured in the promotional materials and assumes that means he will have significant involvement.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “Obviously we had the media day at Hotspur a couple of days ago with the players coming to take photos for the next season for Sky, TNT Sports, etc.
“It was quite noticeable that Bergvall was very much front and centre of that, he was heavily involved in the promotional images that were shared, some of the images the Premier League shared of that day.
“It seems to me that he may be staying now, he’s obviously started quite a few pre-season games as well in recent weeks after Tottenham turned down that bid from Nottingham Forest.
“I could see Forest returning as I said they missed out on Tijani Reinders, and it’ll be a decision really about how much he’s going to play and I think Tottenham would probably rather lose Pape Sarr.”
Why selling Bergvall would be a huge mistake
Bergvall is one of the most promising young midfielders in the top-flight of English football.
He has adapted brilliantly to the pace and physicality of the division, and it would be a huge mistake to sell him.
He will likely go on to become a superstar elsewhere, so Spurs would regret their decision massively, if they accepted a bid.
Hopefully, Wenham's suspicions are correct and he is not sold.
