Liverpool fans get desperate amid Cody Gakpo and Tottenham news coming out of Netherlands
Liverpool fans have given their reactions to news linking Cody Gakpo with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Dutch wideman made the move to Anfield in 2023, joining from PSV Eindhoven.
Throughout his time in England, he has proven valuable, with Liverpool winning the 2024-25 Premier League.
However, his form fell off a cliff the following year, as he failed to adapt to the role full-time following the departure of Luis Diaz.
With the transfer window around the corner, Dutch outlet Soccernews reports that Spurs are seriously interested in Gakpo's signature, while the forward himself wants to leave.
And from a Tottenham perspective, the reviews from Liverpool fans are not the most promising.
Liverpool fans rejoice after Cody Gakpo transfer news
In 180 appearances for the Reds, Gakpo has a rather respectable record of 50 goals and 23 assists - taking his club career tally to 132 goals and 82 assists.
However, his most recent year at Anfield has completely changed perceptions of the winger, with fans rejoicing at the news.
One supporter would kick things off by responding to the claim that he wants to leave, suggesting that nobody will stand in his way.
Others would praise the news, suggesting that there is no better way to start the transfer window.
The usual jokes in these situations came out, with fans suggesting that they would assist Gakpo with his travels down to the capital.
Matching the theme of the responses thus far, one supporter would match the energy of Gakpo, outlining that they also want him to leave.
However, one Liverpool fan managed to not just take a shot a Gakpo, but Spurs as well
Naturally, the reviews are not the best from Liverpool supporters on social media.
However, there is nothing saying that the forward could not be a success at Tottenham - especially as the Lilywhites look to rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi.
Gakpo and Tottenham share the same goals with fresh start needed
In terms of the standards expected, the 2025-26 season was a dismal year for both Tottenham and Gakpo.
However, you don't rack up 132 career goals - 32 of which came in the Premier League - if you are a poor footballer.
Gakpo is not an old school winger that thrives when taking people on, or using pace and trickery to beat defenders.
Instead, he almost fits the mould of a striker out on the wing, while his own end product has suffered due to a lack of confidence this term
If profiled correctly, the Dutchman can be of use to any side in the world - though what fans expect is the most important thing. If the expectation is an electric winger who shifts the momentum of a clash, Gakpo will disappoint.
But for an option in the squad who is capable of coming up with goal contributions, any side would be silly to turn him down.
For him personally, it is sad to see his time at Anfield potentially come to an end like this, but Tottenham should be welcoming a player of his ability with open arms.
You don't rack up 180 Liverpool appearances for nothing, and he should be lauded for that.
