Lamine Camara: Meet the Tottenham transfer target crowned Africa's best young player
Lamine Camara is the latest name to be added to Tottenham Hotspur's transfer shortlist.
The Lilywhites haven't waited around this summer and will have spent roughly around £240million already, once the signing of Sandro Tonali goes through.
Jan Paul van Hecke, Tonali and Mateus Fernandes all cost Spurs a pretty penny, though they won't stop there.
It appears Joe Lewis is keen to operate in a different manner to how Daniel Levy used to, and instead won't wait around until deadline day to maximise transfers from a financial standpoint.
Despite Tonali and Fernandes being two midfield additions, Roberto De Zerbi may want another before the club moves on to attacking targets.
Now, Tottenham appear to be interested in Camara, who could bring lots to the table.
Tottenham want to sign Lamine Camara as AS Monaco lay out exit demands
According to Africa Foot, AS Monaco's Camara is attracting strong interest from multiple Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle.
The trio are said to be determined to sign the 22-year-old, while Newcastle have reportedly taken the first steps to sign him.
Camara is under contract with Monaco until 2029, and the Ligue 1 outfit are said to value their star youngster between £37m and £48m.
He picked up seven goal involvements for Monaco in the league last season, but has had many impressive individual campaigns at such a young age already.
Camara was crowned the winner of the African Young Player of the Year award in 2024, and now has 37 appearances for Senegal to his name.
What Camara chase says about Roberto De Zerbi's midfield plans
It can be argued that a key reason why Tottenham were almost relegated last season was their lack of ability in midfield.
Yves Bissouma has already left the club, while Lucas Bergvall, Conor Gallagher, Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur and Archie Gray all remain on the books.
However, some of those players could leave, especially with the arrival of Fernandes and the expected addition of Tonali.
De Zerbi will certainly have the option of using a flat three midfield, especially if the club land him Camara.
But if the Monaco star does come, you can expect someone to leave at the same time.
