How Juventus feel about Guglielmo Vicario deal as Tottenham decision 'very soon'

Guglielmo Vicario appears to be on the verge of leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has seen his grip on Tottenham's starting shot-stopper role slip.

Roberto De Zerbi is placing his faith in Antonin Kinsky, with new signing Martin Dubravka set to be his backup.

Vicario hasn't played a single minute in pre-season for Tottenham, and has been widely linked with a return to Italian football this summer.

Juventus have been strongly touted with his signature throughout the summer.

However, a change in their transfer plans may now have pushed Vicario even closer to making the switch to Turin.

Why Guglielmo Vicario is now Juventus' priority target

Juventus are known to be looking for a new goalkeeper this summer, and had seemingly found their man.

Paris Saint-Germain are widely expected to sign Zion Suzuki from Parma, with numerous reports in Italy and France claiming he'd then be loaned straight to Juventus.

However, in a fresh report from Gazzetta dello Sport, it's claimed that PSG may now want to keep Suzuki around after signing him rather than loaning him out.

That's now put Juventus in a tricky situation, and according to Calciomercato, is now set to shift their focus over to Vicario.

It's claimed that the Spurs outcast is now the "clear frontrunner" in Juve's goalkeeping hunt, with the Italians looking to sign him on loan.

But, Spurs are said to have not yet made a decision on whether they want to commission a loan or permanent exit for him.

However, Calciomercato's report claims that said decision is expected to be made "very soon."

If Tottenham do decide to loan Vicario out, where might that leave them this time next year if he's not found a permanent exit by then?

What is Vicario's contract status with Tottenham?

Having joined Tottenham in the summer of 2023 from Empoli, Vicario penned a five-year contract in N17.

That means his deal isn't set to expire until the summer of 2028, but that potentially puts Spurs in an awkward position.

If they do loan him out and Juventus don't sign him permanently, then his transfer value could plummet significantly come this time next year.

With only 12 months left on his deal at that stage, Spurs may have a very tough time finding someone willing to pay a substantial fee when he could be signed on a free shortly after.

Therefore, it's probably in Tottenham's best interests to secure a permanent transfer for Vicario this summer.
