Djed Spence value rockets up more than 100% as Tottenham transfer whispers start - Insider
Djed Spence is currently the sole Tottenham Hotspur representative with the England squad at the World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel used Spence off the bench, and he nearly scored as the Three Lions beat Croatia 4-2 on Wednesday.
Harry Kane is known for his Spurs roots, but the likes of Dominic Solanke missed out after previous call ups last season.
Spence has come a long way from having a loan spell cut short with Leeds United in the Championship two years ago.
With Roberto De Zerbi using him sparingly in defence alongside the likes of Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, transfer links away have started.
Spence has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Everton, with his value going way beyond the £20million paid for him initially.
Djed Spence value skyrockets at Tottenham
It has been a rapid rise for Spence, who has endured nightmare loan spells and lack of minutes either side of his success.
Wenham insists that Spence's value is only going to keep rising, especially after his exposure on the international stage.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, the reliable Lilywhite Rose founder believes any links should be ignored.
“Djed Spence should not be available for sale," Wenham said.
“He impressed during his cameo for England last night and I expect him to continue to do so as the tournament progresses.
“Djed signed a new long-term deal in August 2025 with Spurs and is reliable to play at right or left back.
“He is part of an English core - Maddison, Gray, Gallagher, Solanke that we should be looking to add to rather than deplete.
“If I was to guess what Spurs would say his market value is when considering he’s a Premier League proven, Europa League winning, England international I would say north of £40m.”
How did Djed Spence fare in World Cup debut?
It was a solid cameo at right-back for the former Middlesbrough man.
Spence came on for Jude Bellingham in a reshuffle for Tuchel, featuring for the final 10 minutes, plus added time.
In that time, the defender missed one big chance, but didn't put a single foot wrong at the back.
Winning his only ground duel, as well as another tackle, England saw the game out with relative ease against the Croats.
As for transfer links, Spence will only care about putting his best foot forward in North America, so that he can bring it back to Hotspur Way and the new season.
