Frank welcomes brand-new signing to Tottenham after work permit update

Thomas Frank will be pleased that Tottenham have gotten one brand-new signing over the line.

Frank has his first real chance to assess his new squad when Tottenham take on Reading in a pre-season friendly on Saturday (19 July).

The fixture is the first of several games during Spurs’ pre-season tour and will be a chance for the Dane to decide his squad.

As a result, he will want as many players available as possible. Therefore, the former Brentford boss will love a brand-new transfer update coming out of Hotspur Way.

Kōta Takai issued work permit

Tottenham recently announced the signing of Kōta Takai from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale, subject to international clearance and a work permit being issued.

The Japanese defender has been waiting patiently to start training with his teammates and new coach. However, that wait is now over.

As reported by Football London, Takai received his work permit on Tuesday (15 July) and was able to begin training at Hotspur Way.

The centre-back has signed a contract with Spurs until 2030 and will no doubt be looking forward to the challenge ahead.

Takai could be loaned out next season

There is reason to suspect that Takai could be loaned out next season as part of his Tottenham development plan.

The 20-year-old has not played in England before and may struggle to adapt to the pace of the Premier League. As a result, a loan in the Championship may present a good opportunity to help him grow.

Furthermore, it has been widely reported that Cristian Romero will remain at Tottenham this summer. The Argentine had been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, but the Spanish club seems to have backed off for now.

With Romero expected to feature in Frank’s plans, there will be fewer opportunities for Takai to be given gametime. Indeed, the North London club are stacked in defence. From Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso to Ashley Phillips, rising through the ranks, the competition will be fearsome if fitness remains high.

Therefore, a season-long loan may appeal to Takai as much as to Tottenham to help settle their recruit into life in England.
