Tottenham Hotspur are facing the prospect of a financial and sporting disaster unlike anything in their history, with relegation to the Championship increasingly a real threat every time they step onto the field. The 2025–26 season has spiralled into turmoil, marked by a catastrophic managerial carousel that began with the marquee appointment of Thomas Frank. His eight-month reign ended in February after a dramatic slump in league form. In a bid to stabilise the North London club, the board installed Igor Tudor as interim manager, but the hoped-for revival failed to arrive, and the Croatian was sacked himself during the international break.

Spurs are now in the drop zone, facing the staggering prospect of a £250million shortfall if relegation occurs – a sum that combines lost broadcast revenue, sponsorship and matchday income. Burdened by towering stadium debt and the disappearance of Champions League earnings, the mood at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has shifted from ambition to survival. With a third managerial change this season, Roberto De Zerbi is now in control of a desperate sprint to avoid what would be the most costly relegation in Premier League history, but his tenure started with a disappointing 1-0 loss at Sunderland, followed by the heartbreaking late 2-2 draw against former club, Brighton.

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club

Established in 1882, Tottenham Hotspur embodies a spirit of bold, attacking football. Pioneers on the domestic and European stage, Spurs were the first 20th-century team to win the League and FA Cup Double (1961) and the first British club to lift a major European trophy (1963). Their legacy is defined by the “Golden Age” under Bill Nicholson and a tradition of flair and ambition, now showcased in one of the world’s most advanced stadiums.
