Yang Min-Hyeok: Coventry City loan struggles cast doubt over immediate Tottenham future
Yang Min-Hyeok has struggled for minutes since joining Coventry on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Yang arrived at Tottenham in January 2025 with high hopes, albeit as more of a project signing given his lack of exposure to top-level football.
As a result, the teenager joined Portsmouth on loan for the first half of the 2025-26 campaign, before then joining Coventry City in January.
However, minutes have been few and far between for the 19-year-old, having started just once for the Sky Blues since joining.
And with Tottenham set for another big summer of recruitment, there will be questions as to what comes next for Yang.

How has Yang Min-Hyeok fared at Coventry?
Unfortunately for Tottenham, not very well at all.
The 19-year-old has made just four appearances for Frank Lampard’s side since his winter transfer, with a total of just 101 minutes.
| Championship | Yang |
| Minutes played | 703 |
| Goals | 3 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Chances created | 10 |
He’s failed to register a goal or an assist in those four games, but given his lack of gametime, that will come as no surprise.
However, the inference gained from his lack of game time is that he is still not quite ready to have an immediate impact at the highest level in the Championship, which makes it an easy decision for Spurs in the summer transfer window.
What’s next for Yang?
If Tottenham want to see him develop to his true potential, then another loan move to the lower half of the Championship is the best option.
And if Portsmouth were to be interested, then a return to Fratton Park would benefit all parties, given the familiarity from his initial time there.
Yang needs to be playing regularly and learning his game just as much, which will only be achieved at a club where expectations are lowered.
