Tottenham tipped for Dean Henderson move as James Trafford promise emerges
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering making a move for Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.
The Sun journalist Tom Barclay claimed on 8 April that the Lilywhites are monitoring the 23-year-old as a potential Guglielmo Vicario replacement.
Spurs have a long-held interest in the ex-Burnley man and were beaten to his signature last summer by Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, Dean Henderson has now been mentioned as an alternative name if Roberto De Zerbi‘s side cannot poach Trafford from the Etihad Stadium.
Goalkeeper is a priority position for Tottenham in the summer, as Vicario and Antonin Kinsky could both depart.

What has been said about Tottenham and Henderson?
John Wenham highlighted Henderson as a potential backup option for Tottenham if their pursuit of the Citizens star does not pay off.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “On the goalkeeper situation, James Trafford has been linked heavily, and I think he’d be very good, and he would come because he wants to be a number one.
| Vicario’s stats this season | Premier League |
| Matches | 31 |
| Saves per game | 2.7 |
| Expected goals prevented | -5.22 |
| Errors leading to goals | 2 |
| Pass accuracy | 67% |
“He would be promised that at Tottenham, he would play all 38 league games next season without any injuries, but the other one I think is also worth a shout is Dean Henderson at Palace.
“I could see Spurs also looking at him.
“I do think they will have an English goalkeeper next season, and I think it will be one of those two that Tottenham do go for, it would be a monumental improvement on what we’ve got now, which is a situation where I expect both Vicario and Kinsky to leave in the summer.”
How have Trafford and Henderson performed this season?
Henderson and Trafford have had different fortunes with their respective clubs this season.
The former has played 29 league games while the latter has made three league appearances, as he has struggled to usurp Gianluigi Donnarumma.
| Henderson vs Trafford (Premier League) | Henderson | Trafford |
| Matches | 29 | 3 |
| Saves per game | 3 | 3.7 |
| Expected goals prevented | 4.40 | 1.89 |
| Pass accuracy | 55% | 72% |
Trafford makes 3.7 saves per game and has prevented an expected goals tally of 1.89 across the campaign, with Henderson averaging three and preventing 4.40 expected goals, per Sofascore.
The City ace completes 72 per cent of his passes, while the Palace star completes 55 per cent, so the former has the edge in that aspect.
Either one would be a huge upgrade for the N17 outfit, if they can get them through the door.
