Tottenham stance on selling Djed Spence made clear after Juventus interest emerges

Tottenham Hotspur have slapped a £30million price tag on Djed Spence, with Juventus reportedly keen.

Spence has endured an up-and-down campaign, making 34 appearances in all competitions and starting regularly during Spurs’ slide down the Premier League.

Igor Tudor’s side are teetering just one point above the relegation zone, and a fire sale is expected to be held this summer regardless of whether they survive the drop.

Full-back Spence has regularly been linked with a move away from North London, and the latest Tottenham transfer rumours have claimed that Juventus want to sign him.

Why do Juventus want to sign Djed Spence?

Interim boss Tudor has been forced to work with a severely depleted squad since replacing Thomas Frank, with Spence among those to have suffered injury woes.

Indeed, the 25-year-old has been dogged by a calf issue since early February, which ruled him out of recent defeats by Fulham and Crystal Palace.

In his last outing in the 4-1 loss to Arsenal, Danny Murphy admitted he felt sorry for Spence, the England international having been haunted by Bukayo Saka.

However, he is now back in training ahead of Spurs’ Champions League last-16 first leg tie against Atletico Madrid, and will set about fighting for his future.

But the fact that Spurs have set a valuation suggests they would be open to allowing him to leave at the end of the season, a major boost for Juventus.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A heavyweights believe he would represent a quality addition and bring vital European experience to their squad.

Impressed with his versatility, which would allow him to perform in a variety of positions, they are ready to pounce, especially if Spurs fall into the Championship.

Why Tottenham should sell Spence

There is no doubt that, on his day, Spence is one of the top-flight’s standout defenders. But consistency has been a major issue for him this season, especially at left-back.

He is solid enough defensively and has enjoyed his fair share of bright moments going forward, but overall, supporters will have wanted to see more.

The whole squad are equally culpable for their current plight, Spence included, and sweeping changes are required during the summer, Premier League status or not.

So, should Spurs receive a bid worth around £30m for the full-back, they would be wise to take it and carry out a cultural and personnel reset from top to bottom.
