Tottenham head in the right direction as Morgan Gibbs-White joins transfer shortlist

Tottenham Hotspur are building towards a more prosperous 2026-27 campaign after securing their spot in the Premier League.

Just a year on from lifting the Europa League in Bilbao, the Lilywhites found themselves in a relegation battle.

Burning through two managers in Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, Spurs left it to the final day to seal their top-flight status.

They would do so under Roberto De Zerbi, who is looking to mould the club in his image over the summer.

And based on the latest transfer updates, things could well be moving in the right direction at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Fresh transfer updates provided as Roberto De Zerbi stamps mark on Tottenham

Arriving at the club over the most recent international break, De Zerbi was handed the immediate task of keeping Spurs in the division.

While unable to get the same patterns seen at Brighton going, he did provide enough of a spark to see the North Londoners over the line.

As has been the case for the best part of 18 months, injuries remained a huge concern at Hotspur Way.

With the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined, De Zerbi was not exactly blessed with attacking options, while James Maddison was only able to rack up a handful of minutes, and Xavi Simons was forced off against Wolves – a week on from a talismanic performance against Brighton.

Ahead of the summer, Spurs have already been linked with multiple names, with Manchester City’s Savinho emerging as a target once again, while a deal to see Marcos Senesi arrive is all but complete.

On Friday, a fresh report from Football London states that Tottenham are looking to sign a striker this summer to bolster their attacking ranks.

At the same time, The Independent report that the Lilywhites have reignited their interest in Morgan Gibbs-White, who has scored 18 times and registered six assists this term.

Just days after the end of the season, the North London club look to be getting the ball rolling – potentially allowing De Zerbi to have the bulk of his squad available for pre-season.

Are Tottenham targeting the right areas for summer rebuild?

Thus far, there does seem to be a theme of common sense surrounding the links.

With injuries to the aforementioned names, De Zerbi has had to cope without a natural wideman throughout his tenure, making the Savinho links seem rather obvious.

At the same time, similar issues have persisted both up top, and in midfield, with the approach very much being ‘square pegs in round holes’.

More than anything, this is a testament to De Zerbi, who has been able to put the required points on the board with a razor thin squad.

Seemingly, Spurs are targeting their weak spots, while securing Senesi is huge, given the uncertain future of captain Cristian Romero.

Years of haphazard recruitment have led to the current predicament, and the constant shifts in managerial direction have not helped.

The Lewis Family at the helm do still have a lot to prove in this regard, but for now, the direction seems to be the right one.

Operating with common sense, Spurs look set to address key areas of De Zerbi’s squad, who could benefit from a strong pre-season with the bulk of his side together in one place.
