Tottenham fans to rally behind Savinho transfer after subtle Xavi Simons social media hint

Tottenham Hotspur are seemingly closing in on the signing of Manchester City winger Savinho.

The Lilywhites are looking to get business done early, after securing their spot in the Premier League on the final day.

By and large, the season was bitterly disappointing for Spurs, who were dragged into a relegation battle.

Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor would come and go, before Roberto De Zerbi was brought in to steady the ship.

Aiming to mould the side in his image, he could be on the verge of his first signing, with one of his talismanic figures, Xavi Simons, fully supportive of the move.

Xavi Simons drops simple verdict as Tottenham line up Savinho deal

Joining from Girona in 2024, Brazilian winger Savinho has not had the easiest of times under Pep Guardiola.

Tottenham would chase the 22-year-old throughout last summer, before the Citizens would pull the plug on a deal to see him move away from the Etihad.

Now, a deal looks to be back on, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the wideman himself wants the move.

Spurs livewire Simons would seemingly back this, taking to Instagram to share a photo of the pair together at PSV Eindhoven.

While Savinho would make more appearances for the Under 21s at PSV, he seemingly struck up a friendship with Simons – making eight appearances for the first team, assisting twice as Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side won the Dutch cup.

That would be the year Simons made a real name for himself on the professional circuit, with 22 goals and 11 assists across 48 appearances, earning a loan switch and subsequent permanent move to RB Leipzig.

Can Tottenham fans be excited about new-look attack?

If one thing is clear with the signing of Savinho, it is that De Zerbi wants pace and energy.

Across his opening two matches in charge, Dutchman Simons was often the only player capable of springing a moment out of nothing – coming to life in the 2-2 draw against Brighton before his unfortunate injury against Wolves.

With injuries to the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert, De Zerbi was left without any orthodox wingers, and he seems intent on ensuring this does not happen again.

Savinho is raw, with his lack of minutes at Manchester City hardly helping in this regard.

But he brings directness and the willingness to continue driving at defenders.

With Simons out until the end of the year, De Zerbi looks to be bringing in the pace and transitional threat that his sides need out wide.

The most positive fact about all of it, though, is that deals are being done early.
