Tottenham: Dane Scarlett’s contract examined ahead of return from Hibernian

Tottenham Hotspur shipped Dane Scarlett off to Hibernian in January.

The 22-year-old was once seen as the brightest striker prospect in North London, but he has failed to truly live up to expectations.

Things just haven’t worked out at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and he’s slipped massively down the pecking order in North London.

That has seen him go out on four separate loan spells without ever really making a truly positive impression.

Scarlett is now on loan at Hibernian as we now assess what we know about his current deal in N17 ahead of his summer return.

What is Dane Scarlett’s contract situation at Tottenham?

There were genuine calls for the ex-England youth international to start games for the Lilywhites as their Premier League struggles continued.

Thomas Frank wasn’t willing to give him that chance and ultimately limited him to just five appearances across all competitions.

He eventually sealed a temporary move to the Scottish Premiership with the hope of picking up more regular minutes.

That hasn’t really worked out, and he looks increasingly likely to make a North London return as soon as the campaign is over.

The plus point for the striker is that he is under contract in N17 until the summer of 2027 after penning new terms in 2023 before his move to Ipswich Town.

As part of that, he reportedly earns around £15,000 per week at an approximate yearly salary of £780,000.

Scarlett hasn’t been worth that to Hibernian, and that is unlikely to spell good news when he eventually returns to Hotspur Way.

Will Scarlett return to Hibernian permanently?

You have to feel sorry for the Englishman, as his young career has never been afforded the opportunity to get going properly.

So many short-term loan spells haven’t afforded him the chance to build up any sort of consistency or form.

That has only continued at Hibernian, where is he is yet to score, while only picking up one assist in the Scottish Premiership.

It is unclear at this stage whether David Gray will want him to stick around, but the hope will be that Scarlett can land a consistent spell somewhere.

For the better of his career, a permanent move away from Tottenham would make the most sense.
