Luka Vuskovic leaves unusual legacy behind as Tottenham return now in touching distance
Tottenham Hotspur are eagerly awaiting the return of young defender Luka Vuskovic.
The Croatian joined German giants Hamburger SV on loan last summer following their return to the Bundesliga.
After suffering their first-ever relegation in 2018, the former European champions secured a return to top-flight football after seven years away.
Naturally, survival was the goal for Merlin Polzin’s side following their promotion, and Vuskovic quickly established himself as a key figure as they achieved it.
Speaking about his spell at the northern colossus, Bundesliga expert Rune Gjerulff has provided insight into Vuskovic’s special story.

Luka Vuskovic’s time at Hamburg could not have gone better
Having made the permanent move from Hajduk Split last summer, Vuskovic needed further minutes as he continued to adapt to each new level.
Stepping into one of Europe’s top five leagues, the young defender became a talismanic figure at the Volksparkstadion, leading the Red Shorts’ fight for survival.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Bulinews.com Editor-in-Chief Gjerulff could not have spoken in higher regard after the bond struck between the fans and the 19-year-old.
“A very big one. HSV fans have completely fallen in love with him,” said Gjerulff when asked about the legacy he leaves behind.
“It seems the feeling is mutual. It’s unusual for HSV to be able to field a player with his talent and potential, but beyond that, supporters also love his mentality.”
Looking at the move in general, Gjerulff added: “The story felt special right from the beginning because his brother, Mario, is also contracted to HSV, but won’t be available until later this year due to a doping ban.
“Luka would have loved to play alongside his brother, but the reality is that he’s simply too good to stay,” he concluded.
Tottenham need talismanic influence as rebuild commences
It has been a dismal season for the Lilywhites, who have been dragged into a relegation battle as a result of the spells of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor at the helm.
There have been strong signs of improvement under Roberto De Zerbi, who will be aiming for a complete reset over the summer.
That reset starts from the ground up, with Vuskovic one of several players already at the club who seem ready to rise to the occasion.

Alongside his serious talent, the Croatian is a fantastic character who has carried Hamburg’s hopes of survival on his shoulders this term, helping the German giants secure a second successive season in the top flight.
As Tottenham rebuild, these are the characters they should be looking to build around, while De Zerbi strengthens the squad in the transfer market and begins to implement the style of football he so clearly craves.
