Robbie Keane favourite for Premier League job as Tottenham return likelihood comes clear

Robbie Keane is the new favourite for the Crystal Palace job, despite being linked with Tottenham Hotspur.

Keane had been mooted for a return to North London when Thomas Frank was sacked, with the Irishman tipped to become Spurs manager on a short-term basis.

Instead, Igor Tudor was the man picked for the role, and with the Croatian still winless, pressure is already starting to pile on him, with a defeat to Liverpool next weekend potentially enough to see him out the door.

However, the chances of Keane replacing him now seem low, with the former Tottenham striker now 6/4 to become the next Palace manager, ahead of the likes of Frank and Dyche.

Tottenham may be looking for a new manager by the end of March, with relegation from the Premier League looming.

How has Robbie Keane fared in management?

Keane’s most recent managerial job has been with Ferencvaros, which is where he remains today.

The 45-year-old has impressed in Hungary, having averaged 2.04 points per game across all competitions, including 1.80 in the Europa League.

His last job was with Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he also averaged an impressive 2.32 points per game throughout the 53 games he had in charge of them.

Keane’s attacking style of play is what has gained him the most interest, with 160 goals scored by Ferencvaros in the 70 games he has been in charge of.

Tottenham would likely welcome Keane back to North London, but given the state they are in, it feels unlikely that he would want to make the move.

Who is favourite for Tottenham job?

Tudor will do well to last the season in North London, with several names already mooted to replace him.

They include Dyche, Thiago Motta and Keane himself, but Mauricio Pochettino remains the favourite with odds of 4/1.

However, with the Argentine due to lead USMNT out at the World Cup, it’s likely to be an appointment for the summer, which may be too late for Tottenham given the immediate risk of relegation.

Other names, such as Ryan Mason and Roberto De Zerbi, are also in the running for the job at Tottenham.
