Tynan Thompson could be Tottenham’s difference-maker as Premier League 2 exploits on show again

Tynan Thompson deserves a chance to showcase his worth for Tottenham Hotspur.

Let’s face it, the senior players in North London have been nothing short of an embarrassment for the most part of the season, and that was again on show against Brighton.

The performance was improved, but the lack of character was exposed again as the Seagulls grabbed a late equaliser to prevent Spurs from securing their first win of the year (we are almost in May).

That lack of character is not something that can be fixed overnight, but it can be washed out by the injection of youth, with several players having shown their worth in the Premier League 2.

Thompson is one of them, and Roberto De Zerbi needs to become aware of the quality he could bring to the relegation battle.

Tynan Thompson shows Tottenham what they’re missing

Xavi Simons aside, who is not a winger, you’d find it hard to name a wide player that has had a positive influence for Spurs this season, at least at senior level.

But at youth level, there have been several, and Thompson is right up there.

Across 22 appearances for the Under-21s and the Under-19s, Thompson has 17 goal involvements, having grabbed another in the 2-0 win over Blackburn.

The 18-year-old was fearless in his performance, as he has been all season, but he also had the quality to back it up.

At this stage in the campaign, Spurs need to roll the dice and try something out of the ordinary, and Thompson may well be able to provide it.

Roberto De Zerbi must avoid error made by Igor Tudor

When Igor Tudor was appointed, many thought he would make dramatic changes in a bid to keep Spurs in the Premier League.

He didn’t, and nothing changed. At least not in a good way.

De Zerbi can’t afford to make the same mistake, and with several youth stars knocking on his door, he has to give them the chance.

Whether it be Thompson or one of the other teens excelling above their age, they can certainly make a difference in the Premier League.
