Tottenham Hotspur have been without their captain Cristian Romero for plenty of games this season, and fans have begun calling for Kevin Danso to take the role.

Romero was absent as Spurs secured a crucial 1-1 draw against Liverpool at the weekend. The Argentinian was unable to play due to concussion protocols.

However, while on this occasion he missed out through no fault of his own, there have been times his hotheadedness has left the Lilywhites in a spot of bother.

The centre-back’s leadership has often been a point of concern among Spurs fans, and ahead of Tottenham’s next matches, supporters have picked out Danso as a potential skipper.

What have Tottenham fans been saying about Kevin Danso?

Danso deserves a lot of praise for his shift at Anfield over the weekend. It was the first time in a while Tottenham had looked to show fight in a match.

When the final whistle went, footage of the Austrian in the aftermath of the game emerged, showing that he was ushering his teammates over to celebrate and applaud with fans.

It was a showing of leadership from the centre-back, and fans were quick to pick up on that.

Reacting to the video one supporter said on X: “Danso and Porro are the only two captains I’m really seeing right now.”

Others followed suit stating a similar sentiment across the social media platform.

Praise for the Austrian international was not only found on X, as across the Tottenham Reddit page, many felt the same as well, with one fan stating: “Love the man, future captain.”

Another Tottenham supporter said: “Came to us when every player was rejecting us and has always fought for the badge and is very consistent. Should be captain when we sell Cuti.”

Overall, Danso had put himself in the good books with Spurs fans, and it will be interesting to see what role he assumes when both Romero and Micky van de Ven are available.

Although Danos has received praise, Guglielmo Vicario has been on the end of criticism from Tottenham fans.

How Igor Tudor should set up his Tottenham defence

When everyone is fit and available, Danso should remain in the Lilywhites’ backline, with Igor Tudor pushing van de Ven out to left-back.

The fullback position is a role that the Dutchman has been tipped to play, with former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou believing he will play there for the Netherlands at the World Cup.

If Danso continues to impress fans as he has been doing, then dropping the 27-year-old seems implausible.

While Romero and van de Ven have not been at their best this season, they do still have plenty of quality, which is why Tudor should find a way to play all three.

There are eight Premier League games left for the N17 outfit to secure their status in the top flight, and the Croatian must find his solution as soon as possible. There is little time to waste.
