Tottenham destined for success under Roberto De Zerbi as stats highlight improvement

Tottenham Hotspur have improved in a number of key areas since the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi.

Relegation fears are still strong in North London, but with just three games left to play, survival is in Spurs’ hands.

They sit a point above West Ham, having shown plenty of improvement since De Zerbi replaced Igor Tudor.

Tottenham are chasing three wins in a row for the first time this season, having previously failed to win a domestic game in 2026.

But the deeper stats showcase Tottenham’s revival far better, and the Italian’s impact is telling.

Tottenham are much more effective going forward

Tottenham have struggled in front of goal this season, and those concerns have only been made worse by injuries to several key attackers.

The Lilywhites average 3.9 shots on target per 90 in the Premier League since gameweek one, and those numbers have increased signficantly under De Zerbi.

Even including the Wolves game, in which Spurs failed to have an actual effort on goal, Tottenham have averaged 4.5 shots on target per 90 under De Zerbi.

While minor, the average possession has also increased in games, with Spurs having recorded an average of 51 per cent over the last four games, compared to the 50 per cent throughout the full campaign.

Tottenham have also conceded just six shots on target since the Italian was named manager, but that is the area that highlights a concern that still lingers.

Tottenham are still far too soft defensively

At times it cannot be helped, but for Spurs to have conceded four goals from the last six shots on target speaks volumes about the goalkeeping situation.

Neither Guglielmo Vicario nor Antonin Kinsky have shown enough this season, and that is backed up by the number of goals conceded compared to the number of shots faced.

Both goalkeepers rank among the bottom 27 per cent in the Premier League for their save percentage, with Kinsky actually ranking among the bottom five per cent.

There’s little De Zerbi can do about that with three games left, but it is an area that will need to be addressed this summer.
