Souza to question Tottenham role under Roberto De Zerbi after end-of-season snub
Souza joined Tottenham Hotspur in the winter window under Thomas Frank as the Dane looked to turn his managerial spell around.
However, it was not long after that the former Brentford boss was let go by Tottenham. Igor Tudor took over in his place.
While the spell under the Croatian was ultimately a disaster, for Souza, it was his first real opportunity in North London to stake a claim.
At just 19 years old, the former Santos ace still has plenty to learn, and that much was evident in his limited appearances for Spurs.
However, Souza’s gametime under Roberto De Zerbi was non-existent, and it will leave plenty of thoughts circling through his head.

How has Souza’s time at Tottenham gone so far?
Souza has made just four appearances for Tottenham, one game under Frank, and the other three under Tudor.
It was with the latter he was handed his first of just two starts. In those appearances, he averaged a 93 per cent passing accuracy.
| Souza at Tottenham | Sofascore rating |
| vs Manchester United | 6.3 |
| vs Fulham | 6.6 |
| vs Crystal Palace | 6.1 |
| vs Liverpool | 6.2 |
But he was also quite weak in his duels, with a success rate of just 17 per cent. Although that is from a small sample size.
Going forward, he created 0.8 key passes per game, which is quite an impressive amount, given he averages just 36 minutes per game, according to Sofascore.
After starring for Santos, he really was not handed much of a chance, albeit, that may be down to the precarious situation Tottenham were in.

However, since De Zerbi has come into Tottenham, the Brazilian left-back did not feature a single time for the N17 outfit.
While that does make sense, with the Italian looking to lean on the more experienced options over the 19-year-old, he must be questioning his role for next season.
After making zero appearances under De Zerbi, he will likely be fearing his chances to feature for the Premier League side, especially with Andrew Robertson close to joining Tottenham.
What is next for Souza at Tottenham?
After Tottenham secured Premier League survival, the slate has been wiped clean, and De Zerbi will now look to implement a style more commonly known to him.
That work will get underway during pre-season, where Souza will have the chance to make a second impression on the Italian.

If he fails to do so, he risks another few months of being an outcast from the starting lineup, a situation no young footballer wants to find themselves in.
Time will tell what the future holds, but an early lack of trust from De Zerbi is not a good omen.
