Roberto De Zerbi may have already initiated Lucas Bergvall exit protocol after Tottenham snub
Roberto De Zerbi has opted against starting Lucas Bergvall in the last three Tottenham Hotspur fixtures.
The Italian has already had a major impact in North London, with two wins in a row in the Premier League, with Spurs having previously failed to win a domestic game since 2025.
De Zerbi has made limited changes, but the ones he has made have certainly had a big influence, as showcased by not only recent results but also performances.
However, some of those decisions have also cast aside some of Tottenham’s regular starters, with Archie Gray and Bergvall absent from the starting 11 for the win over Aston Villa.
And with Bergvall previously linked with an exit from Tottenham, those fears may start to resurface again.

Lucas Bergvall snub is warranted at Tottenham
Bergvall has so often been a shining star for Tottenham, but his performances since the arrival of De Zerbi have been average at best.
He started the Italian’s first game in charge against Sunderland, and, in all honesty, was awful, hence the reason he has failed to start since.

But with Rodrigo Bentancur back and thriving in his role, the Swede may struggle to get the minutes he needs to get back to his best.
Bergvall was handed just one minute of gametime against the Villans, having played a total of 41 minutes in the previous two encounters, with just six passes completed in that time.
When he has featured recently, Bergvall has struggled to get into games as much as he would have liked, and that makes it unlikely to get more minutes ahead of the final three games.
Bergvall snub could lead to summer decision
Bergvall is an excellent player, with plenty of development ahead of him.
And for that reason alone, Tottenham will not want to sell him unless they were to receive a ludicrous fee for his exit.
But much of that will hinge on how De Zerbi sees him going forward, knowing that the level of value he has may be too expensive to keep as a squad player.
Tottenham are in need of another rebuild to some extent, and Bergvall’s transfer value could have a crucial role to play in that.
