Micky van de Ven comments prove why Tottenham aren’t ready for relegation scrap
Micky van de Ven has said that Tottenham Hotspur’s recent form has been rough to deal with.
Spurs lost 5-2 to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, with their Champions League exit now all but certain.
Alongside, the Lilywhites are locked in the ongoing relegation battle, with just a point separating themselves and the bottom three.
Thomas Frank has been and gone, while Igor Tudor sits on the brink of losing his job, after the Croatian has taken charge of four successive defeats.
Things don’t get much easier either, with a trip to Liverpool coming up on Sunday, and quite frankly, Tottenham aren’t prepared for the crisis at hand.

Micky van de Ven’s worrying comments won’t sit right with Tottenham fans
Spurs remain winless since 2025, with things just getting continuosly worse, and even more so since the appointment of Tudor – who the players just don’t seem to have taken to, despite his firefighter reputation gained elsewhere.
Following the heavy defeat in Madrid, vice captain Van de Ven told Dutch outlet Ziggo Sport: “Right now we’re just taking blow after blow after blow. It’s rough, I can tell you that, really rough, So like I said, I have to keep going.”
The defender made the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2023, joining from VfL Wolfsburg. Since then, he has attracted attention across the continent, and will likely be one of the first to leave over the summer – something that exemplifies just why his comments will not sit right with supporters.
“It’s part of it, that’s life, and we’ll see what’s coming. I’m not on my phone anymore. I’m just completely done with it. Just my family. So it’ll be fine,” he concluded.
For those guaranteed a move away over the summer, it will be fine. But for the fans of the club, and the staff whose jobs are put at risk due to the relegation threats and ongoing decline of Spurs, that is far from the case.
Tottenham are not ready for relegation scrap – Micky van de Ven’s comments prove that
As of now, the 24-year-old remains suspended in the Premier League, following his red card against Crystal Palace last week, while his attitude has been questioned multiple times since Tudor’s appointment.
Of course, relegation threats would have been the last thing on the mind of those associated with the club ahead of the season, but the reality is that Tottenham find themselves in a dismal situation that they simply do not look ready for.

The responses to the threat of relegation have been extremely poor. Not once have the Lilywhites looked prepared to grab a game by the scruff of the neck, and when they have found the back of the net, similar mentality issues have seen Tudor’s side soon slip up.
At the moment, not a single individual among the squad appears ready to accept blame, while young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky was fed to the Wolves in Madrid, with no real protection from either his manager or teammates after he was substituted in the first half.
It is easy for Van de Ven to say that things will be fine, he himself will be on the move over the summer.
But Spurs have sleptwalked into a huge crisis, and the club as a whole just does not seem ready to deal with it.
