Mathys Tel: Tottenham reversal pays dividends as Roberto De Zerbi realisation sets in
Mathys Tel played a crucial role for Tottenham Hotspur as they secured victory against Aston Villa.
The Lilywhites are now out of the relegation zone ahead of the final three games of the season, having secured a 2-1 win away to Villa on Sunday night.
It’s now two wins from two for the North Londoners, who have already shown signs of major improvement since the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi.
With that said, the job is far from done yet, with a poor result next weekend still able to see Spurs drop back into the bottom three.
However, if Tottenham are to avoid relegation, then Tel may have a crucial role to play, and Sunday’s result against the Villans may have seen De Zerbi realise it.

Roberto De Zerbi rectifies Mathys Tel error
Prior to Sunday, Tel had failed to make the starting 11 in each of Ze Zerbi’s first three games in charge, starting with the defeat to Sunderland.
While he has played a small part towards the latter stages of each game, he has been afforded very few minutes to actually make a difference, which is what he did against Villa.
| Premier League | Tel |
| Starts | 10 |
| Goals | 3 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Chances created | 24 |
| Successful dribbles | 36 |
Tel created two chances on Sunday, one of which resulted in him getting an assist.
He completed four crosses, and with shix attempted dribbles, albeit only one of them being successful, he was constantly looking to make things happen.

With the Villans struggling to contain Tottenham’s threat, his selection certainly paid off, and may have earned him the chance to start again for the final three games.
Leeds United encounter could be blessing for Tottenham
A clash with Leeds is up next for Spurs, and given their home record this season, very few Tottenham fans will be optimistic.
However, that may change if West Ham were to suffer defeat against Arsenal next weekend, with the Whites then officially safe.
Should that be the case, there is every chance that Leeds’ players will be on the beach, so to speak, giving Spurs the edge on the night.
Tottenham will still have to be at their best, though, on this occasion, they may actually be rooting for the Gunners.
